I carry so much shame from having two failed marriages. When it comes to dating I feel like a walking red flag because of it. I don't know if I see myself getting married again - mostly because I don't think anyone would want to be married to someone like me and I also don't know if I believe there would be a point in trying a third time. But your words gave me the permission to stop judging myself so harshly. Because like you, I'm in the same camp of cheering people on who live their own lives they way they please. I forget that the same thing applies to me too.

Jennifer, having two marriages end absolutely does NOT make you a walking red flag. And I think sometimes we’re so much better at giving other people permission to live their lives however they need to than we are at giving ourselves that same permission. Whatever you decide about dating or marriage in the future, I hope it’s because it’s what YOU want, and not because you feel like you’ve somehow used up your chances. You haven’t. 💜

My mom had multiple marriages. She just wanted to be loved like everyone else. Sometimes, partners don't show their true colors until you're in it. I was always thankful when she left each one. Sometimes multiple marriages aren't failure they're just an unwillingness to put up with abuse. She never did find her person. I'm always happy when I read a story of someone who did.❤️

I love your perspective. Sometimes leaving a marriage IS the brave and healthy choice, and staying certainly isn’t always evidence that a marriage was a “success.” I’m glad your mom had a daughter who understood that and was rooting for her. 💜

My dad has been married three times and this is his longest and most successful marriage. Congrats!
